The Wingo Lions Club is partnering with Graves County Adult Education to offer GED classes in Wingo. Graves County Adult Education’s mission is to improve quality of life through education, training, and employment, helping individuals support themselves and their families while strengthening communities and the state’s economy.
An Open House and Open Enrollment event will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 11, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Wingo Lions Club building. Refreshments will be provided.
The GED class will begin the following week, on Tuesday, Nov. 18, and will continue on Tuesday evenings as long as there is community interest. Those interested in earning their GED, or who know someone who may benefit from the program, are encouraged to attend the Nov. 11 open house to learn more.
Along with the efforts of the Wingo Lions Club and Graves County Adult Education, the funds raised during the annual Chili Dinner, which took place on Saturday, November 8th, will be used to cover the cost of providing internet access for the classes. In the past, the dinner has raised funds for childhood cancer programs, diabetes research, local scholarships, and more. While Wingo Lions Club still plans to give two scholarships this year, Rene Bard, former club president, said the Lions chose to dedicate this year’s proceeds to adult education.
“Graves County is a huge county, and for people, being able to get to Mayfield can be a tough commitment, especially with things like childcare,” Bard said in an interview with WPSD. “By being more centrally located, we hope folks will have a better opportunity to use these resources.”
For those who are interested in the GED class but cannot attend Tuesday night’s open house, information is still available. You may contact the Wingo Lions Club by sending a message on Facebook, calling 270-559-6827, or emailing [email protected]
The club will ensure that enrollment details are provided and that you have the best opportunity available to further succeed.
“When the community gives to us, we give back to them,” said Bard. “It gives us the motivation, when the community comes out to these events, to keep on keeping on.”
The Wingo Lions Club is located at 48 Exchange Street, Wingo, KY, United States, Kentucky 42088.
