On Friday, Nov. 7, A Graves County deputy jailer was arrested after investigators said he provided contraband to inmates at the county’s restricted custody center. Graves County Jailer Kelli Elliott said jail supervisors found evidence suggesting an employee had been smuggling illegal items into the facility. The information was then turned over to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, which launched a criminal investigation.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s home, which was served around 3 p.m. Friday. Authorities said evidence connected to the investigation was seized. The deputy jailer was identified as Billy Williams, 51, of Graves County. During an interview, investigators said Williams admitted to providing contraband to inmates in exchange for payments from their family members. He was arrested and taken to the Graves County Sheriff’s Office before being transferred to an out-of-county detention center. Williams is charged with first-degree official misconduct and first-degree promoting contraband, according to the sheriff’s office.
