Students at Central Elementary are celebrating a big milestone in reading this school year.
According to the school, Central Elementary students have collectively read 11,993 books, totaling 45,447,989 words so far. That breaks down to an average of 18 minutes of reading per student each day.
School leaders say they are incredibly proud of their Knights and have set an even bigger goal — 100 million words read by the end of the school year. With their current pace, officials say students are well on track to reach that milestone.
And there’s a fun incentive attached: if the goal is met, its said Mrs. Cornwell and Mrs. Wheeler have agreed to kiss a pig in celebration.
Central Elementary has created a reading challenge designed to encourage strong literacy habits while keeping learning fun and engaging for students.
