GC Students Attend Kentucky Youth Assembly

Students recently took part in the Kentucky Youth Assembly, an educational program that allows students to serve in a model state government and debate real-world issues.

During the two-day event, students participated in General Assembly and Supreme Court sessions, presenting bills, debating their constitutionality, and voting on legislation. Several students presented their own bills, answered questions, and delivered pro and con speeches, while others served in the mock Supreme Court reviewing student-written laws.

The experience helped students develop critical thinking, public speaking, and leadership skills while engaging with peers from across Kentucky. Organizers say the students rose to the challenge and represented their school with pride.

“Our students represented GC well. They showed up to their conference rooms on time and spoke during chamber meetings,” said GCHS Teacher, Jordyn Newhouse. “This year we had 11 seniors attend with us. I hope they learned from this experience and will share their stories to encourage others to attend with us next year.”
