PADUCAH, Ky. (July 15, 2024) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will temporarily close a portion of Interstate 24 westbound in Lyon County on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, starting at 9 a.m. CDT. This closure, near mile marker 42, will facilitate a reconstruction investigation by Kentucky State Police at the site of a two-vehicle accident that occurred on July 8.
The detour for westbound traffic will last approximately two hours. Drivers will be directed off I-24 at the KY 293 Princeton-Eddyville Exit 45 interchange, follow KY 93 North into Eddyville, and then take U.S. 62 West back to I-24 at the U.S. 62 Eddyville-Kuttawa Exit 40 interchange.
Motorists are advised to proceed with caution along the detour route. KYTC District 1 will provide updates if the investigation concludes earlier than expected. Eastbound traffic on I-24 will not be affected by this closure.
This closure is essential for ensuring a thorough and accurate investigation of the crash site, enabling Kentucky State Police to gather crucial details regarding the incident. The Transportation Cabinet urges drivers to plan accordingly and allow for extra travel time during the detour period.
Motorists are reminded to stay alert and adhere to all posted signs and instructions from law enforcement and road crews. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as they work to ensure the safety and efficiency of the state’s transportation network.
