Mayfield City Council Passes First Reading of Ordinance

Mayfield City Council passed the first reading of an ordinance on Monday 4-5. repealing and replacing the schedule of fees for planning and development. The ordinance outlines what the city charges for certain services in building or modifying property within its limits. it is important to note that this is a first reading of the ordnance, which does NOT mean things have changed. ordinances must go through more than one reading to pass.

some fees on the schedule since 1992, and they might need to be adjusted for inflation or agreements with the county and state.

Fees on the schedule either remained the same or increased, while a few were added or eliminated. Some of the additional fees were previously part of permits. A key debate within the council was if a hike in development costs would de-incentivize new businesses in the city.

For the initial two items pertaining to both commercial and residential properties, the council did agree to split them into separate charges. A second reading at next month’s city council meeting,

Pending Changes:

  • Conditional use applications: $250 (commercial), $100 (residential). The original price was $100 for both.Dimensional variance application: $250 (commercial), $100 (residential). The original price was $100 for both.
  • Conditional use and/or dimensional variance, county clerk’s recording fee: $50, an increase from $13.
  • Re-zoning application (non-refundable): $250. The charge remains the same.
  • Site plan review: $250. The charge remains the same.
  • Plat review: $100. The charge remains the same.
  • Recording of plat, county clerk’s recording fee: $50, an increase from $25.
  • Land disturbance permit: $500 (1 acre or less), $50 for each additional acre. This is a new fee.
  • Encroachment permit: $100. This is a new fee.
  • Sign permit: $50 (attached/detached), $100 if over 30 feet. This is a new fee.
  • Zoning certification letter: $25. This is a new fee.
  • Fee for special called meeting of planning commission: $300. This is a new fee.
