A shelter-in-place order is currently in effect for Trenton, Kentucky, following a train derailment between Pembroke and Trenton.

Officials say 12 to 14 rail cars derailed, including one car carrying molten sulfur, which is now on fire and producing a plume of smoke. Another rail car was damaged. No injuries have been reported, according to Todd County Emergency Management Director Ash Groves.

The shelter-in-place order applies to Trenton residents within a half-mile of the derailment site. Residents are advised to stay indoors and turn off HVAC systems until further notice.

Cleanup efforts are ongoing, and U.S. 41 is currently closed between Trenton in Todd County and Pembroke in Christian County. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is urging drivers to use alternate routes and says updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

This is a developing situation. Updates will be shared as they are released.
