The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Is Making A Pitstop In Paducah

The U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree will be making a stop in Paducah, this Friday, November 14th. 

It is set to arrive from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Paducah Farmers Market lot, and the city is planning to turn the visit into a full holiday celebration.This year’s U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree, making history as the first ever from Nevada’s Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. Its journey from Nevada to the U.S. Capitol will make many stops at parades, festivals and community gatherings Acros the United States. Aside from Kemtucky, the Christmas tree will also make stops across Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma and Missouri.

This years tree is named ‘Silver Belle’, and will unite thousands in pride, joy, and holiday spirit while carrying the heart of Nevada to the heart of America.

The tree  tour began on Nov. 1 with a special celebration at the Nevada Day Parade in Carson City. From there, well-wishers along the nearly 3,000-mile journey will have an opportunity to view the 53-foot red fir. 

Kenworth provided a T680 just for the event. The truck sports new a installed graphics wrap, to transport the tree. The truck’s design celebrates the “Spirit of the Silver State” with a background of the sunset overlooking Nevada’s National Forest. This year’s driver, Michael Porter, based at Swift Transportation’s Phoenix Arizona Terminal, brings an enthusiasm for driving and a reputation for professionalism and service. Knight-Swift will haul the tree, while Southwest Airlines will help transport thousands of handmade ornaments created by Nevadans.

Blaine McDonald, Executive Director of Paducah Main Street told WPSD in an interview that there are going to be around 30 vendors showing attendees some Christmas fun. 

“There’s going to be sweets; anything you would need at a Christmas market. We’re going to have hot chocolate, and it’s just overall going to be a cozy, fun Christmas market in downtown Paducah,” said Mcdonald. 

She also noted that Foam on You will debut a new snow machine to bring winter magic to the evening, and that families can also enjoy free activities, such as cookie decorating hosted by Kirchhoff’s Bakery and hands-on Christmas crafts.

Guests who attend will also have the special opportunity to sign the official banner that will be displayed in Washington, D.C. alongside the tree. This is a wonderful experience and memory for you and your family, as you help leave Kentucky’s mark on this national holiday tradition since 1964.
