On November 9, 2025, at approximately 2:19 pm, the Mayfield Police Department responded to Jackson Purchase Medical Center for a complaint of suspected child abuse. When Officers arrived, they spoke with the victim and the victim’s parents. After the initial interview and observation, it was determined that the victim had received cigarette type burns to his body. Diagnosis by the hospital showed 1st degree burns. The victim was released from the hospital with wound care. Sherrod T. Shelton, age 30 of Mayfield, was interviewed, and then placed under arrest. Shelton was lodged at the McCracken County Jail.
